A malformed egg with a tail was recently discovered in Yidu, Hubei province in central China, chinanews.com reported on Tuesday.

The owner of the egg said that the hen had been fed a diet of corn and worms. Zhu Dejiang, head of the local livestock husbandry department, suggested that the tail could be foreign matter from the ovary, which somehow became attached during the formation of the egg. It is an exceptional case, but the egg is still completely edible.

Besides Hubei, eggs with tails have appeared in several other places, including Jiangxi, Jiangsu, and Shanxi provinces. Experts believe that multiple factors could contribute to the abnormally shaped eggs.
