Shaanxi (Guanzhong) boasts fertile land, so few local dwellers would migrate. Hence comes the proverb “The old won’t go out of Tongguan; the young won’t leave for Sichuan”. Over time, local men would never go far away from home, girls in Shaanxi would never get married outside their hometown either.
